Thinking Big for the Future, reported by Courtney Brumpton

On Tuesday 25th April eight students from Monks’ Dyke Tennyson College jumped on a minibus and set off to Young Enterprise in Leicestershire. We arrived at the Castle Donington Launch Pad to take part in a project run by O2. The project was called ‘Think Big School’.We arrived and were seated quickly. After an introduction from Ben Plane, who runs the project, we were off.

‘Think Big School’ is where lots of schools meet up and create and design apps that could benefit society. Our group thought up the idea ‘PickyourSick’ where the user can connect with doctors’ surgeries via webcam. We believed that this would help society by improving carbon levels and preventing people catching infectious diseases whilst waiting in surgeries.

The day was generally building management and team skills. We also learned how to project our ideas professionally which is a useful technique for later employed life. When the work was completed we visited the Grand Prix Collection, featuring all the cars and clothes of every Grand Prix racing driver since Grand Prix began. Overall a very useful, eventful and productive day.
