GLOSSARY OF SEN TERMS

SEN Special Educational Needs – a child with special educational needs will be supported by our Additional Support department
SEN Support From September 2014 School Action and School Action Plus will be called SEN Support
SA – (prior to 2014 Act) School Action – A child at School Action will be receiving extra intervention to support them in achieving their expected level
SA+ – (prior to 2014 Act) School Action Plus – a child at School Action Plus will (in addition to school intervention) be supported by outside agencies, for example an Educational Psychologist
Statement – (prior to 2014 Act) For students with a high level of need a statement of Special Educational Needs may be appropriate
EHC Education, Health and Care plan. From September 2014, Statements (band 6 and above) will be replaced with an EHC at the Annual Review. Statements below band 6 will be classed as SEN Support, although any provision will continue
SENCo Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator – Mrs S Jorgensen. The member of staff responsible for identification of Special Needs, co-ordination and monitoring of provision
ASA Additional Support Assistant. A member of staff that supports students both in and out of the classroom
Access Arrangements Some students may be entitled to extra support in their exams for example extra time, or a reader
